kinagatng7lions @ 9:31pm: SUDDEN REALIZATION

Random thought. Hello, my friends (see how they glisten).

teeth_for_eyes @ 9:37pm: Under the Radar

Years back, id always thought that being under the radar
in the corporate workplace would ensure me
a steady job and an easy life.

Seems that was a false sense of security.

Not that i don't like it.
I guess i failed to realize in the past
that such a thing is inevitable once
you start giving good output.  Now it seems
people are starting to rely on me to do my
job well, more often than i was accustomed to.

Oh well, welcome back to work Robert Wong.

I'm not yet done with tweaking the colors and the jksdagdf textures and everything else and I have a deadline in seven hours for final proofs and covers and akdlhaslkhaslhfasfIDON'TKNOWANYMOREBUTLOOK (click for larger view)

Draft of a submission for a multimedia design conference souvenir... book... thing (and yes I'm reusing the lineart, I hope you don't mind, [info]imaginarybeasts people). I would have wanted to, you know, color it properly instead of cheating my whole way through but in my defense I found out about the call for submissions only a day or so ago and ahahaha I let myself enable myself into it because obviously when Mia is upset she copes with it by drowning herself in work and inflicting all sorts of torture on her fingers. Not sure if it's going to get accepted or anything of that sort but at this point I don't care anymore because I just want to stare fixedly at it and wonder about why I have this fixation with orange/magenta/red and try not to think about everything else I have to do.

And aaaaagh okay I need tea or candy or something to make myself feel better aasdhakfjsldfsakdfaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

Please let me know if the image clutters your flist and I'll be happy to put it under a cut.

edit: Sigh so apparently I missed the deadline. To make myself feel better, though, I'm printing out postcard-sized prints of this later. If you'd like one, please let me know.

uesugi_rin @ 9:15am: Paperheroes.Net V2.0 - Lifestream Edition, Progress and Order Form!
(My Original Blog Post: http://ping.fm/0v4bh)
For months I've been promising myself to go and revamp paperheroes.net - only to uh, either forget all about it / procrastinate / be distracted by bright shiny objects / oh hey, Big Bang Theory's on! This is the first time in awhile that I've finally been able to sit down and actually do this and so far, it's seven hours of my life well-spent. Normally, I just spend it eating Cheetos, or something.

Celebrating Paperheroes.Net - Lifestream version! If you don't know what Lifestream is, chances are you'll be hearing all about it soon enough - it's rather like Twitter, only geared more towards bloggers. It's a great way to keep track of all your social networking portals in just one website, forming one giant blogging cohesion much like a terminally geeky Voltron robot, except powered by the internetz and narcissism. And I form the head, yo.

Basically, here's everything that's new with this version:

1. Twitter Updates! Because I am not satisfied with using the Twitter portal alone to go off and about, annoying people I haven't even personally met. You can check out my recent twitter updates here as well - not that there's anything really relevant that you need to read there. I mostly just show off dolls, and then ooglewank.

2. Flickr photos! Every time I upload a new doll in my Flickr account, you can now view it almost immediately in my Flickr widget!

3. Feature Blog Entries! Every once in awhile, I showcase some entries I've done at the top of the blog - either because it's an unusual doll that I don't normally make, is popular when it comes to page hits, or because Ihave nothing else better to do. They get their own nifty feature image, too. Current featured blog entry now, for example, are the Jonas Brothers dolls.

4. Better organization! Starting with the next entry, small blurbs of each blog post shall be available; clicking on the title brings you to the full blog entry. Eachentry, usually when dolls are being featured, will also have a cropped photo or two just to add a bit more color and images!

And last, but not the least.....

5. CROCHET DOLL STATUS & ORDER FORM!

I get a lot of requests every week, and I'm not often able to email every customer with progress reports and updates regarding their dolls. I also wanted to keep an easily edited listof dolls thatI need to do and dolls thathave been ordered, to make my life so much easier. Fortunately, I am also blessed witha boyfriend with mad programming skills, and he managed to make me an order and status form to hep me out. He's romantic that way.

Now, if anyone would like to request for a doll, all they need to do is send in an order form via this page (or by clicking on the customize your own doll ad in the blog). I'll email back with the price and details, and once everyting has been settled, I add your doll to the order form's status page, where you can monitor your doll's progress (status of completion, shipped updates, etc).

Thanks to everyone who's been visiting paperheroes.net! We now average roughly 10,000-12,000 unique hits a month, and for a little hobby crafts blog, this is an awesome landmark!

h_matsumoto @ 1:50am: Having Friends of the Opposite Sex While in a Relationship
I just want to share this article I found online.

Source: http://www.associatedcontent.com

Platonic friendships with the opposite sex are always an iffy subject when you are in a relationship with someone else. But, is it really impossible to have close friends (even the corny 'best friends forever' label) with a man or a woman, when you are in a committed relationship with another? The answer is yes, but it comes with a list of criteria that you must be willing to fulfill in order to build that trust you have with your partner and keep your love relationship strong.

Nothing should be kept secret. Your partner/spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend must be in the know about the friendship. Where you're going, who you're hanging out with and any changes within the friendship must be made known. This is not a means for your partner to keep tabs on you, but, a means to build that trust that is so important. The anxiety of not knowing where you are and with who, can give rise to serious jealousy and distrust.

Do not ever make your partner feel like he/she is second important. Do not put your friend's needs first. You must realize that keeping your partner happy and earning his/her trust is your priority.

There should be rules established. What you can do and cannot do. While going out to dinner maybe okay for you, it may not be for your partner. How much time can you spend with your friend? What do you do when you get together? Is it okay to dance with a friend of the opposite sex?

You must know where to draw the line within the friendship and stick to it. Letting it get to you and falter will only hurt all parties involved, especially the one you're in a relationship with. It would make them feel awful, distrustful and possibly cause low-esteem problems as they think they are just not good enough for you to not hurt.

You should allow give your partner the ability and choice to voice his/her concern without feeling as if you've had your privacy invaded. That's the point, in such cases, there should NOT be anything private about your friendship. Your partner would have every right to ask you question, and you must provide honest answers.

You must keep communication open for everyone involved. Be strong willed to place limits for yourself, and honesty with your loved one about your friendship and clarity to your friend about what's appropriate, what is not and why it is important for you to keep things open for your partner.

Why Friends of the Opposite Sex are a Bad Idea

"Honey, I'm going out to dinner with my best friend Jake tonight," she tells her boyfriend. "I'll be home around ten. I love you!"

And if you, sitting here, are the boyfriend, you should be trying to analyze why you have a sinking feeling about this scenario. You've been here before, and if you haven't, one of your boys has. It doesn't end well.

And girls, if you've been with a guy who has a female best friend while he dated you, you were jealous. I'm just taking a wild guess, but I'm pretty sure I'm right in at least 90 percent of all such scenarios. I know your gender too well to think that you weren't jealous.

So why are we still so naive to believe that that guy or that girl's opposite sex best friend of 1, 5, 10 years, really is just a friend? Sure, keep telling yourself that one, champ. Don't come crying to me when you feel like the third wheel of THEIR relationship, or when you get cheated on with the "best friend".

So why is it a bad idea? Let me break it down into clean, simple numbers.

1. There is romantic interest there.

There is. And if there isn't now, there will be in the future. Period. Again, unless the best friend is gay or lesbian, and your partner is straight, there is romantic interest. And if you partner isn't interested in their opposite-sex BFF, then BFF is romantically interested in your partner. What's that spell for you? Sabotage. And if you are the one with the opposite-sex best friend, you are sabotaging every single relationship you will ever get into. The only way to avoid that sabotage, is to let the relationship get in the way of the friendship. Either way, it's sabotage.

2. You will never be the number 1 guy/girl in your partner's life as long as the best friend is around.

And if, by some chance, you do become the number 1 guy/girl in your partner's life, then the best friend is, by definition, no longer the best friend. But that's the exception to the rule, so don't count on it happening. The best friend will always be the number 1 relationship guy/girl in your partner's life. Or in your life, if you're the one with the best friend.

3. I have testimonies.

In a thread on Forums, the following responses were given...

"Yes.. very true. I've had a few girls that have guy best friends.. and it tears me apart. It's very hard for me to think about it.I know how us guys think.. and VERY rarely do you find a guy that is friends with a girl because she is a great friend. "

"I've found this to be very true. If guy and I became bestfriends he'd later admit that he was interested and had feelings the whole time."

"And I also don't think I could be best friends with a guy without developing romantic feelings for him. IMO, intimacy between men and women always ends up involving romance and/or sex."

"Every guy who ever called me his best friend later confessed to having a romantic crush on me."

"I did have one guy that was my best friend after my husband died, but since he has gotten a girlfriend, he can no longer be my best friend without causing problems in his relationship"

And so on. There's too many examples of why it's a bad idea, and too few examples of why it's not. It just doesn't work. Your best friend should be your boyfriend / girlfriend / fiance / spouse, pure and simple, and with an opposite sex best friend, you can't do that.

fayelafee @ 4:45am: trip down memory lane
I was talking to [info]peppery about the possibility of RP-ing SHINee with her and it made me miss my old Gravitation RPG with Marianne et al.

So I spent the last 3 hours perusing the community's old entries. I was pretty surprised with what I found. I don't even remember making most of the entries so it was like reading a stranger's journal.

Man, all of the players (except me) were good. Good thing my character (Shuichi) was a bit of an airhead so serious posts from him were seldom.

All in all I think we did well (didn't we, [info]lethologica?).

I'm sorry that it got discontinued. We didn't even get to use the LJs we specifically created for the "migration". =/

madara_blog @ 1:50pm: The Famous Picture...and then some

Well, I said I'd post it here, so here it is, the photo taken of Morning Musume with me right after I concluded the interview. It's already had some circulation on the web in other forums after it was first posted to MM-BBS.

But now I've finally figured out how to post images here. So here are some more I took at Anime Expo:

MM arriving at the AX Opening Ceremony on Thurs. July 2.

Fans get their fix of "Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari" at the Morning Musume booth in the exhibit hall.

"Hangry" (Hitomi Yoshizawa) shows up to the delight of fans at the Morning Musume booth, Thurs. July 2.

"Hangry" holding a fan's baby.

More from the Opening Ceremony. This was taken off the screen showing the live video feed.

More Hangry action. (Can there ever be too much Yossi?)

And another shot from the Opening Ceremony.

More to come...

Because judging from the first game, we look like we're on our way to cementing what is proving to indeed be the niche and cornerstone of UP basketball - sucking. At least we still have the pep squad, i.e., the gayest part of my personality other than penchant for dicks.

Also partly because I'm writing something and devoting all my energy and brain cells to it, i.e., all those left after all the hack-writing that I do. Weird tangential bit of info - last night, I needed to know the color of the most popular morning-after pill so I texted some female friends whom I thought would most likely need it (plus straight guys who fuck girls all the time, they should know). Out of the ten or so people I thought, one knew the answer, while at least five people, including one straight guy, hazarded a guess and picked the same color - pink. I wonder if this has some sort of Sheldon-esque psychological explanation. By the way, Jim Parsons was nominated for an Emmy.

dreamlessness @ 3:57pm: in defense of sir freddie
recently, local musical legend freddie aguilar proclaimed that international stars like charice pempengco, gary valenciano and arnel pineda are "copycats." apparently it's caused quite a stir in the filipino community - although certainly not as big a stir as the one caused by the hayden fias-kho, which is still making ripples and keeping the local showbiz press happy to this day.

the reactions amused me a bit, because charice and arnel really do copy their stuff off foreign musicians. the less derogatory term, i believe, is "cover artists" - it's a completely legitimate way to make a living. cover artists pay tribute to the original artists by keeping their songs alive and fresh. i'm just not sure how applicable it is to arnel, given that he's not actually covering Journey now, but rather fronting it; i don't know how much creative control he actually has.

moreover, originality and musical talent are rarely mutually exclusive - you can be a talented singer and not sing your own compositions, or something written especially for you. you can be a talented violinist and play only tchaikovsky and brahms - being able to play ryan cayabyab and louie ocampo isn't even necessary to be recognized as a filipino. fayelafee @ 9:41pm: Something to think about
I'm quoting my friend Charm RE: K-pop in the Philippines because I think she makes an interesting point.

"I really hate that they think that the Pinoy masses cheapen the fandom, that they don’t see what they bring to the bands’ fame and success. Tapos in denial pa sila na kesyo hindi sila selfish. Besides, kung mabenta benta man yung mga fake merchandise sa Quiapo, then that shouldn’t be a problem because the hardcore fans will support them by buying the real stuff. Ganun lang yun, role dapat yun ng fan club kung meron man.

Parang tanga talaga, walang support at all para sa kapwa Pilipino eh. Sobrang crab mentality talaga. They cannot assume that there are more haters ni Sandara dito when she’s got a fucking huge fan base here. Sabi ko sa yo hindi small deal yung mag#1 sa Myx pucha anu ba keber na bulok kuno ang Myx, ang importante, masa yun therefore, MASSIVE ang votes received.

Jologs daw. That’s so immature and ganun talaga sa Pinas eh, you need to swallow that. Kung psycho ang fans sa Japan and Korea, may level of crazy din tayo and that is yung naca-categorize as jologs. Ganun lang yun. Fucking whiners."

nacchisento @ 11:43pm: Real Job?
How do you define a real job? Or "a career"? Is it a soulless submission to the MAN? Or a way to achieve the middle class dream?

Seann Ryon, a security guard friend of mine confronted me with the question and a statement that "the middle class dream" isn't too bad. Get a nice suburban house, get a car, go to vacation once a year, get the wife, the kids, the dog.

It sounds nice. It is nice. The tradeoff is the death of my dreams. Yet what are my dreams anyway? Still stuck up in the clouds and not grounded. Trying for that creative job and achieving that creative nirvana while watching the years pass me by.

Ah well. I still have a deadline for myself. It's gonna be here soon. Hopefully when it comes, I already have my feet directed to the path I want to end up in.

What's my five year plan? My ten year plan? Still the same. Yet I have to make sacrifices. The question is, what would I sacrifice?

The odds are great and the rewards are endless. The path is paved with broken glass and hot coals. Still I go after that impossible dream.

On the other road is the boring brick road leading to the middle class dream.

I'm at the crossroads.

Which one to choose?
